On 9 September 2010 AuSIL and several partners sponsored a public forum entitled
Indigenous Languages in Education: Do current policies match our needs?
The forum was held in Darwin at Charles Darwin University, with live video links to Alice Springs and Nhulunbuy.

Gail Williams, a local Larrakia woman, opened the forum.
A first-hand perspective on the issue was provided by Mr. Yunupingu, former principal of
Yirrkala School and lead singer and founder of Yothu Yindi Band.
